Well, after reading book 2 (see my review on Moon’s Web), I decided to go back and read the first book – Hunter’s Moon. Sometimes first books can be better because authors put in a whole lot of effort in detail about character development and other times first books are less because the author is learning their craft and becoming more competent.
Hunter’s Moon, if anything is the former, though CJ and Cathy are from my experience with both of these books already quite competent.
Hunter’s Moon is a book that introduces us to Tony, a werewolf assassin and Sue a normal human and how these two become mated. The second book hints at elements of this story but give nothing away.
We are given some detail about Tony’s transformation from human to Sazi/werewolf by the hand of Babs – a target who he is supposed to eliminate but he doesn’t know she is a werewolf and there is only one way to do it right. We also learn about Sue’s life with a very brutal family who is abusive in every way even though she, a huge lottery winner, provides for almost their every need.
When the 2 of them get together, they transform each other giving them each something the other needs. Tony needs a true mate and Sue needs not only a mate but someone to help her be whole and strong (a little cliche but it works for the story).
There is also big villain in the story, Leo. We have a big surprise with him at the end which to me wasn’t obvious at the beginning even after reading the second book first. Also, the other main supporting characters are introduced in a nice way throughout the story. My only disappointment was Linda, Carmine’s wife. She is played out as a great friend for Sue in this book but in book 2 is set of for some serious heartbreak at the hands of Babs who is in a love triangle with Carmine and Linda.
This is a very fun story. I have another of their story’s that I look forward to reading.
