Book Review – Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

This was a very detailed and complex book. In fact, to me, the first third of the book was down right confusing.

The premise of this book is that it’s a world much like ours but there lives magical and semi-magical creatures. In fact, some of them are already known to the world. The lesser fae (fairy) were forced by their leaders to go out to the public. It wasn’t exactly successful as that many of these fae were fired (people didn’t want them as doctors or teachers) and in fact they were put in fae reservations much like indians.

This story takes place in the Tri-cities area of Washington state and is about Mercy who can change into a coyote (she is not a were-coyote but something different). She lives next door to the local were-wolf alpha pack leader, Adam. She is an auto mechanic who bought her shop from a goblin who sometimes comes in to help her out. She works on a car for a vampire who thinks that Scooby Doo is way more powerful that Buffy.

The story involves some nasties coming to town and trying to kill Adam and kidnapping his human daugther. Mercy helps him by taking Adam to the head werewolf in the country (who she was lived with while growing up which is why she knows so much about werewolves).

It get’s pretty complicated and I’m not about to explain it. The second 2/3rds was pretty good after we got through the first 1/3rd. It wasn’t the best book that I’ve read but overall it was interesting. I did like the character of Mercy though.
