iPod

About 3 months ago, I bought iPods to go with compatible stereo systems for both Kathy’s car and my truck. At the time, I thought they were a great way to get our music collection available into our vehicles. And they have been. Kathy has really enjoyed having her music in the car along with the flexibility of playlists and having the kids music in the car too.

But it’s been much more.

A few weeks after we got the iPods, I decided to explore podcasts on them. I’d been getting podcasts on my mac which had been fine but I had to sit with my mac laptop to listen to them.

About a week ago, I’ve expanded to video podcasts too, which I’ve also been getting on my mac.

The result is that I’ve got an incredibly flexible system and it’s even for someone who doesn’t take a bus or commute. I walk my kid to school and listen to content then. I watch the kids outside and listen to content then. I will listen to it while I eat lunch, workout, read a book or various other activities.

Kathy asked if I feel pressure to listen to all the stuff I subscribe to and in general the answer is no. It’s all for fun. I thin it out all the time. I do have shows that I’m a little sad if I miss them but that’s about it.

The iPod along with Apple’s Music Store in iTunes is what makes this system work so well. I’ve read reviews of other players being great but I think it would be hard to compete with this combination of player and platform.
