As I mentioned on my previous post, I was having and still am having a problem using a Veritas Tools Mk II Honing Jig to sharpen my chisels.
Here is a picture with the results:

Now, there is a bunch that I’m happy with.? I’m happy that I got smooth and flat surfaces.? I’m happy that the cutting edge is sharp.? I’m happy the surfaces are even polished to near mirror like.? All good.
Unfortunately, if you look at the cutting edge you will see that the micro besel is not straight across the chisel and instead is at an angle.? It doesn’t directly affect the cutting edge but this should not happen.? The micro besel starts very close to the cutting edge and then gets to about 1/8″ away from the cutting edge (at least on the larger chisels).? Instead they should be 1/8″ across the whole chisel – parallel to the cutting edge.
As I mentioned in the last post, I was going to send email to the folks at Veritas Tools and I did.? They have been very friendly and seem to be willing to help and asking sensible questions.? I’ve sent them this picture in response to one of their questions so I hope that we are working towards progress.? It is great to contact a vendor who has great support staff and is willing to stand behind their products!
