A bad day!

OK, first the cold weather is getting a little old but I’m pretty easy about stuff like that so that doesn’t stop my day and I go on.

My body is in pain. That’s because I have no sense. I spent the day before sledding out of our driveway with our boys. Our driveway ended in a big bump and while the boys didn’t really care, it killed my tail bone. Then afterwards, I got rid of the ice that we had made on the driveway and street which required almost 2 hours worth of work (if I had just shovled the driveway of snow it would have been 15 minutes). Now this was worth it because it was a lot of good times with the boys. Here is a picture (there are more under Jan07 in the gallery so check them out!):

Of course, so far the day is just uncomfortable and not really bad. I’m cold and in pain. Kathy needs to go to a meeting but doesn’t want to drive (rightly so) in the icy roads. So the boys and I take her then go do so errands.

On the way out of the parking lot, I notice the first step in making a bad day. My engine light is on. I take pretty good care of my truck so that is not good and shouldn’t be. These lights are often “dummy” lights and give no real information. At our first stop, I check fluid levels under the hood and also read the manual and I’m right, it is a “dummy” light and says that we should get to the dealer as soon as we can. That is a bummer. It’s a little bit of a bad day.

The next little bit happens on the way to the next errand. It’s a bit of a drive and we get stuck behind a construction truck hauling dirt. Not usually a problem because I’d usually get out from behind them but my exit is coming up. Well, guess what? A big rock comes out of the truck and smashes into the windshield scaring me and the kids. It breaks it up pretty darn good too. It’s definitely going to need replacing. Now this is not just a little bit of a bad day but a full on bad day.

Ok, finished the errands and have picked Kathy up. Timing even works out well so I thought our luck had turned a bit. Xander had even run into a friend when we went to Starbucks (I promised the kids a tea drink they like if they were good on the errands). After that and we are 100 yards from home, I feel the truck loose all traction and instead of following the road, we slam into a bush (it’s a big bush which has been lovingly sculpted!). It takes a bit to get away from the bush, rocking the truck back and forth. I park in front of the house – which I drive by and walk by all the time though I don’t know the people who live there. I was only going between 10 an 15 mph which was about what I was going the 2 times before when I drove the same stretch so I’m not sure why I lost control. It just shows that you can’t be too careful. Anyway, I gave my information to our neighbors who live there and told them that we will help them pay for removing and replacing. I did go back and take pictures in case we need to file for insurance. Obviously this is has gone to be a pretty darn bad day.

To top it off, I had the beginning of a migraine.

I do try to see the good side of things so here it is. I have many, many great days. Most of my days are good days. The only way that I know what kind of day that I really have though is through experiencing the occasional bad day. It’s the universes karma or bell curve or how ever you look at balance.

Let my missteps through the day, give yours a bit of an upbeat!
