New Music Site

As a big Anti DRM person, I watch various news feeds for music outlets that deliver their music DRM free. I heard about a new one called AmieStreet.

The model is quite interesting. When a new song shows up for the first time, it is actually free. As a song is purchased and recommended, the cost for the song goes up until it hits a maximum of $.98 per song. You do have to put down money in the form of credits before any purchases can be made. That is probably the only serious down side in their model but even that is not too bad.

Their current select is not main stream but it is still quite good and seems varied. I was also impressed by the browsing ability. It has all the things you might expect including genre, recommendations, latest additions and combinations of those. All in all it was very easy to go through and find music.

I was able to find an album’s worth of songs in less than 20 minutes just through sampling. Speaking of sampling, the sample length is considerably longer than iTunes.

Last point is that the format is MP3 and sound quality is pretty good. It’s worth checking out.
