Well, here goes the first company, Comcast with the first barage against any sense of internet neutrality or fairness.
According to all accounts, Comcast has been killing packets of BitTorrent traffic. At this point they are unwilling to discuss their actions too. It’s obvious that the actions are not going over well with the internet community, nor should they. This action is an assault on fairness of all network traffic to get to all possible audiences. Also, it’s apparently not the limit of their misbehavior and shows that we need to keep our vigilance high against Comcast.
Of course, I think that at this point it is just a matter of time before we see the next (and next and …) of the major ISPs do exactly the same thing. I expect they are just waiting to see how the fallout is handled by Comcast before taking exactly the same action. If the hit can be managed, they will do it quickly if the hit is hard, they will try some more subtle behaviours (though experience shows these ISPs aren’t really very subtle).
Again, we need to be vigilant against Comcast, Verizon, Time Warner, AT&T, and all the rest out there. They are just waiting to do this and more.
