When I workout, I lift significant weight. Of course significant weight means different things for different exercises. Also, I tend to be conservative with the weights though I do lots of reps in each set.

My general workouts follow a full body approach though I’ve had to modify it. I was doing full squats (bar over back of neck, then bend at knee and waist) but I was continually injuring myself. The injuries were slight but as I’ve found the older you get the slower even slight injuries heal.

I also do dead lifts. This is the first time, this particular exercise caused me an injury. Of course, all injuries are do to bad form and lack of concentration. As someone who is conservative in his approach, I’m usually pretty focused on the exercise including form. Obviously this time, I failed somewhere though I didn’t feel any awkwardness or pain during the exercise.

The pain has last a few days so I’ve started icing (and I’ll do some ice/heat treatments) to help things along. I hope that this is not an exercise that I have to eliminate.

When I was doing all the organization in my garage, I was doing it as I always do things – aggressive and get it done. Well I’m 45 now and even though I work out 5-6 days a week and am very fit, my body is not that of a 20 or 30 year old and apparently it gets seriously fatigued.

I really tired out my back and my right forearm. My back seems back to normal. I think the reason for my back’s recovery is due to me giving it some rest and keeping off of it. My forearm though is still out of it and that’s probably because it’s a harder part of my body to give rest to. I have computers that I use and other things that I do that still need my arm – especially since I’m right handed. Also, I have a knack for sleeping on it which probably doesn’t help.

Anyway, here’s hoping I see improvement over the weekend!

The windows are all in and now they are working on the trim. It’s behind schedule but I think it’s because the original estimate was too aggressive. The original estimate was that it was a 2 or 3 day job and now I think this is easy a 4 or 5 day job. Live and learn. I’m happy with the work crew. They are friendly and professional and doing a good job. I’m not thrilled with the slip but we’ll deal with that.

Last May, I reached the point that I needed glasses. It was just barely. I had a minimal prescription for both distance and for reading. Reading though is where I have seen the most advantage to having the glasses over the last year. Having never worn glasses and having such a minor prescription, I am frustrated with dirty glasses all the time. If the glasses aren’t perfectly clean, I can see better without them than with them. My mom, on the other hand, has very thick lenses and never had that option so dirty/clean probably were only subtle differences to her.

Well, it’s time for a check up and I expect that age is further catching up to my eyes. I don’t expect any big upgrade in the prescription or anything but I would expect a minor jump in both ends. Of course those darn drops are not fun.

I’m a bit of a hypochondriac. It means that when I get a cough or hear someone else cough, I wonder if I’m sick and sometimes I think about it too much and just keep feeling sicker and sicker. It’s all silly, I know. It’s especially silly when I watch a medical show on some really horrendous illness like leukemia or other cancer and because they are showing the illness in very visceral terms, I start to feel like I have the disease. Welcome to the way I think.

Fortunately, I know the way I am and I deal with it and don’t really overreact to all my sicknesses. In fact, if anything I probably under react to them.

I suffer from some form of chronic acid reflux (my doctor has a fancy medical name for it but I can never remember that stuff). I take some medication which keeps it at bay. Every once in a while though, I still get a case of heart burn. Of course in the back of my brain, I remember reading that heart burn can be a pre-liminary sign of heart trouble. I woke up with heart burn this morning.

To compound the issue, I work out (which I’ve mentioned – in fact as you know if you’ve read my blog, I work out a lot and pretty darn heart). I had a really good set of workouts this week. I must have had an especially good work out on my chest because my ‘pecs’ are aching quite a bit. Of course, having chest presure is another pre-liminary sign of heart trouble too, right?

I’ve had both of these issues separately before and I’m sure of the reason. It’s just luck they land on the same day and cause me to think extra hard on this issue.

Now, I also know that my last physical (a year ago, I have another one in a few months) was awesome. That means that I had great numbers in all my lipids and cholesterols. I am not overweight. I have nice low blood pressure. I am just being wacky about it all. Right?

I’ve been suffering from a bum shoulder for the last week. Today it started to feel a bit better. Probably because I let it rest the most I have for the whole week. Tomorrow, I’ll try to do more of the same and with any luck by Monday, I’ll be 100%.

I hate injuries. Occasionally, I know they come from some particular action. In a case like this shoulder thing though, I have no idea whether I hurt it doing something or maybe I just slept on it wrong or maybe it’s just an age thing. Also, I don’t heal like I did when I was 20 because something like this would probably have been better in 2 days rather than been bothering me for the entire week.
