WordPress 2.7

WordPress is the blogging software I use on this blog. They have done a major rework of the management interface and some other bugs, features, tuning work. The UI is pretty good. I’ve been running it since RC1 and it’s stable and has some nifty features. If you are a blogger, I’d recommend the upgrade.

WordPress on iPod Touch

I am trying the new WordPress application for the iPod Touch/iPhone. It as simple to set up. The keyboard makes it hard enough that I am not likely to post very often.

WordPress Upgrade

Upgraded both my blog and our Family Twitter blog to the latest WordPress release which is version 2.6. I immediately had a problem with a plugin (WP-DowloadManager from GamerZ). After going to the plugin site which had a discussion forum, they had already found out that WP 2.6 is now using the same function name [...]

MacJournal vs Ecto

Well, I’ve used MacJournal for about 100 posts and it’s a nice application. It has the benefit of allowing you to have a “Blog” and a private journal. In my view, the weaknesses include the lack of synching a designated number of posts from a blog site which could include download all posts. I like [...]

WordPress Upgrade – Feed (Atom, RSS) Breaks

BIG ISSUE for feed subscribers. I just upgraded from WordPress 2.5 to 2.5.1 and it broke all my links to the various WordPress Feeds (Atom, RSS, RSS2). I am still researching this and trying to find a way to fix it for those who won’t be back here (like my Mom) but I am not [...]

New Theme

This last week, I saw an interesting new theme that I thought with a couple of tweaks would be a nice new theme. I’ve installed it so take a look and give any feedback that you have via comments. Obviously, this will only affect those who visit my Blog site for those of you who [...]

Our Family Twitter

Ok, this isn’t exactly Twitter but I’m going to keep calling it that because at this point I’m not signing up for it. I’ve instead set up a separate WordPress blog with the Prologue theme so that my family can have a very personal twitter like interaction. I’ve mentioned this in a past post. Last [...]

Themes

I tried a new theme today but I’ve since taken it down. My problem with some themes is that I like the basics but the authors do such a great job at putting technology into them that they make it hard for people like me to come along and customize them a bit more. The [...]

Blog issue last night

This morning when I woke up (Happy Easter, by the way!), I found that my blog was down. At first, I thought there might be some hosting issues but I quickly found this wasn’t the case as that both my plain website was fine and also another (test) blog was up. Since I am running [...]

WordPress 2.5 Release Candidate

WordPress 2.5 Release Candidate 1 was released yesterday. With my blog, I tend to be bleeding edge so I installed it. It went up with no trouble. The UI for administrators is a nice change though it seems a little slower at this point. It will take some getting used to. There are some features [...]

Importing old blog post entries

I’ve been busy working on a project to import all my old blog post entries into MacJournal. It is taking a while because the format for import is not the same as the export for WordPress and so takes a lot of manipulation with the output. If I was more effective with Automator or another [...]

Email Newsletter Subscription Option

I’ve been wanting to have the option for readers of my blog to be able to subscribe via email but the options for WordPress blogs have not been to my liking. I’ve come across one that seems like it has the features that I like. If I’ve got it configured correctly, the newsletter will come [...]

Facebook

Kathy’s been using Facebook as a kind of community location for several of her friends and she’s been having fun with it. She likes some of the Facebook applications like Scrabulous. As the dumb grunt of a husband, I figured I’d follow my lovely wife’s lead and check this out so I signed up. I [...]

WordPress Upgrade

The folks that develop and maintain the WordPress software are seemingly on top of all the things they need to. Every time I read about a security issue, within 24 hours it seems we get an update for WordPress. This time is not an exception. There was a report about some login issue and here [...]

New Project – Twitter/Prologue

Kathy and I are trying an experiment. I’ve never gotten into Twitter or any of it’s competitors. Kathy had never even heard of them. Some of the folks doing them (like Merlin Mann) sound interesting but others sound like they are either abusing it with links galore or just boring us to tears with news [...]
